FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When do I get my medications?
For most hospital surgery, you will get Percocet (Oxycodone) for pain, Vistaril (Hydroxyzine) to help reduce nausea with the pain medication, and Motrin. You take the Motrin three times a day until completed, and the Percocet you take as needed for pain, along with the Vistaril if you have any nausea.
Do I need to sleep with my surgical shoe?
If you have pins out your toes, I recommend sleeping with your shoe to protect the pins.
If you don't have pins, you are probably okay unless told otherwise.
How much can I walk after surgery?
I usually recommend taking it easy the first few days. Keep your foot elevated until you feel better, and reduce walking as much as possible.
Can I shower after foot surgery?
You can shower, but I recommend being careful and using a shower cover. You can get it online or at the office.
If your bandage gets wet, please contact the office to see if you need to come in. A damp bandage increases the risk of infection.
How do I protect the pins in my toes?
If you have pins, try not to pull them out. This can happen when putting on socks or changing shoe gear.
Be extra careful and if there is a problem contact the office.
When can I work out or exercise after surgery?
If you have had hospital surgery, please check with your doctor.
If you have a simple office procedure such as an ingrown toenail, you can be active as soon as you are comfortable; however, if you have pain, stop that activity.
