Stunted Nail Growth Treatment Process

TREATMENT PROCESS

This is my current treatment process for patients with stunted nails. This is usually caused by injury or trauma to the toenail or after having a previous toenail procedure for an ingrown or infected toenail or having a toenail removed.

  • 1st Visit - Evaluate your condition and possibly take a nail sample. Determine the cause of the stunted nail. If it is caused by an infection, try to treat it. If it is not caused by an infection, consider options.
  • Ingrown - Many times a stunted toenail can cause ingrowing at the tip of the skin as the nail grows out. At time "T Taping" is needed to help with this to pull down the bulbous skin at the tip. This would begin IF the nail grows into the tip of the skin.
  • Keryflex - For those that have a stunted nail that is embarrassing or if you wear a band-aid on your toenail you might be a candidate for Keryflex. This is a medical grade resin that is applied to cover the nail. It is a cosmetic procedure that lasts three months or more. Many patients come in 1-2 times a year for this procedure when wearing sandals or going on vacation.
