Don’t use these if you have really flat feet!

Foot Fun - Check out some “fixed” shoes

My son liked wearing some old shoes and despite his father being a podiatrist he wouldn’t get rid of these shoes.

One day he went to school and his shoes were falling apart and his teacher had some red duct tape and fixed them.

Check out these “Sonic Shoes” because they were red he was happy they looked like those of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Dr. Matt Monette’s Big News

We introduced Dr. Monette last week as he is new to our practice.

The other big change was Matt got married the day after his residency graduation.

That a busy weekend.

I had the privilege of doing surgery together with him at his last day of residency.

He seemed so calm considering he was graduating, getting married and starting his first job all around the same time.

When you meet Matt in the office you will notice that about him he is very thoughtful and calm and he is an exceptional surgeon.

The European Difference

Upon arrival to Germany we started to walk around and see Frankfurt. Usually I walk very little but according to our Garmin watches we walked between 6-7 miles per day.

The first day while battling exhaustion we walked toward the tourist district. There were a number of beautiful classic buildings that looked like traditional German images in my head with the wood molding around the buildings.

We were traveling during the EuroCup a famous soccer game hosted by Germany. There were lots of fans shouting their team song.

Lots of fans filled the squares.

A few parts I thought were interesting included the large amount of Mercedes and Porsche cars. Even taxis drove Mercedes in Germany.

Also I was shocked at the number of smokers in the city.

Question Of The Week

What are the best sandals and slippers for flat feet?

We recently discussed the best shoes for flat feet. The more stable the better. What about sandals and slippers. Many patient worsen their foot pain from walking excessively in sandals 🩴 that offer no support can make your tendons work harder to stabilize your foot thus causing more pain and discomfort.

What sandals are best? To start the more supportive the better.

However if the sandal pushes up too much in the arch it can be painful.

Some of my favorite sandals include OofosFit FlopsArchies and Birkenstocks. Try them out and see which you like.

A word of caution!

A word of caution about Oofos if they get wet they can be very slippery and dangerous.

What about it slippers? Slippers with arch support can be difficult to find.

I usually recommend wearing shoes at home if possible.

If not add an orthotic into your sandals because I have not found a good one yet with a good arch support and stability. If you have some slippers or sandals you really love just reply to this email and let me know.
