Do kids get plantar fasciitis?

Foot fun

What our patients say

“I was training for the NYC marathon when I started experiencing heel pain 16 days before the race.”

I was training for the NYC marathon when I started experiencing heel pain 16 days before the race. I got in quickly for an appointment with Dr. Feldman. Dr. Feldman was thorough and caring and explained my diagnosis and treatment plan clearly and thoroughly. I left the appointment feeling relieved and excited for my race. I highly recommend Dr. Feldman and his team to anyone experiencing any kind of foot issue or pain: they are human and professional and really care about their patients.

“I have high regard for Dr. Benjamin Saviet as a doctor. I saw him as a second opinion regarding surgery.”

I was very satisfied with the staff at this office. I have high regard for Dr. Benjamin Saviet as a doctor. I saw him as a second opinion regarding surgery. Xrays were taken and he explained the problem with my foot the way I could understand. He took the time to answer any questions I had..and he determined that I was prescribed the wrong brace by the prior doctor. Therefore, now the correct brace will be ordered, trying to avoid surgery if possible. I would recommend Dr. Benjamin Saviet highly.

Entertaining topic - Mouse droppings in the cabinet

My kids are always looking for something fun to do. Recently that checked out a book called the “Pranklopedia.” As I opened up the cabinet I saw little brown droppings that looked like they came from a mouse and started to smile.

They said, “Dad we are going to play a joke on Mom.” They made the fake poop and put it in the food cabinet. Look at the picture with the yellow circle where I am showing the dropping. Mom was surprised but didn’t fall the prank. I guess they will have to try harder next time.

Here is the book if you are looking for a good present for a child.

Main topic - Sever’s Disease (Kids Heel Pain)

Sever’s Disease: What You Need to Know

Sever’s Disease is a common foot problem that affects kids, especially those who are very active. It usually happens in children between 8 and 15 years old. This disease is not really a disease but a growing pain in the heel.

When kids play sports or run a lot, they may feel pain in their heels. This is because the heel bone is growing, and sometimes the tendons (the strong cords that connect muscles to bones) pull on the heel. This pulling can make the heel hurt, especially after running or jumping.

Signs of Sever’s Disease include heel pain, swelling, and sometimes kids may limping after playing. It might hurt more when they play sports like soccer or basketball.

The good news is that Sever’s Disease usually gets better on its own. Here are some ways to help: rest your feet, ice the heel, and wear comfortable shoes that fit well. Sometimes, a doctor might suggest special inserts for shoes.

If you have heel pain, it’s important to tell an adult. With a bit of care, kids can keep playing and have fun without hurting their heels!

Question of the week - Do kids get plantar fasciitis?

Frequently parents come in with their kids worried that they have a common adult condition such as plantar fasciitis. This is common in adults but I have never seen it in children. The more common condition is Sever’s disease where the growth plate gets inflamed in the back of the heel. Despite being painful at times it does not last forever.

Here is a picture of Sever’s disease I made with an AI (artificial intelligence) drawing tool.
