Can our bodies really heal themselves?

What our patients say

“He was spot on with his diagnosis”

I recently saw Dr Monette for a problem with my foot. He was spot on with his diagnosis of my foot. He suggested a treatment plan. I followed his plan that he emailed to me during my visit. I followed his plan and my foot is responding very well to it. It's been 3 days since my visit and the foot looks as if I never had a problem. I'm very happy with Dr Monette.

“Dr. Saviet is such a great Podiatrist.”

Dr. Saviet is such a great Podiatrist. He has done hammertoe corrections on both of my feet. He lets me decide what to do after we talk about the surgery. Both surgeries have gone very well. No scrunchy toes anymore. He is a very kind and gentle person. I recommend him for any got or ankle problems.

Can our bodies heal themselves?

Our bodies are made to heal themselves. From when we are young when we get an injury they get better by a natural process in our bodies.

A few examples include when you get a cut and it repairs itself or when you break a bone and it mends.

However, not all conditions heal themselves despite your body trying.

There is a process called inflammation where you body sends the healing cells to the injured area. But due to activity, nutrition or other areas sometimes things don’t get better like they should.

I tell my patients there is an acute phase of healing that lasts from 6-8 weeks (like the time for a bone to heal). If your body does not heal in that time frame it becomes chronic (stalled in healing).

These are the majority of patients we see in our office and that is where we use treatment to “jump start” the bodies healing ability.

Over the next few weeks I will talk about some of these treatments that we recommend and perform in the office.

These treatments are called “regenerative medicine.” These are treatments to heal tissues and restore function lost due to aging, disease, damage or defects.

Video Tour of our new Website

We are proud of our new website and I wanted to show you a new intro video we have on the website as well as a few resources you might find helpful.

Here is a short video going over some things on the website along with my play by play commentary!

I give a little tip at the end about how you can send over pictures of your feet and get some doctor feedback you might like. Check out the video by clicking HERE.

Why is the plantar fascia slow to heal?

One of the areas on the body that is prone to being slow to heal is the plantar fascia. The reason for this is because once it becomes damaged due to excess activity or pulling due to tightness it is unable to repair itself.

That is usually because we are not able to rest and the fascia does not have the best blood flow to that area. Instead of healing the plantar fascia becomes thicker (scarring) and makes it even tighter. This is a vicious circle of injury and chronic inflammation that makes many of our patients frustrated.

The solution for many of our patients is Shockwave therapy. It is a type of regenerative medicine as referred to above. It can be used for many conditions throughout our body.
